Has anyone gotten phone call from man with Indian accent stating they are getting error messages from our computer & we need to turn it on (or off). With accent it was hard to tell if he said on or off? I think this is second time we've gotten this call so DH immediately hangs up & we unplug computer Just curious if anyone else has gotten these calls.

It is a scam to gain access to your PC by eventually getting you to allow them remote access and or ask for more personal info like your full name, address, credit card info and any other personal info which they could use to steal your identity.No one, I repeat NO ONE "monitors" your PC for "errors" INCLUDING MICROSOFT. So if anyone calls stating they are Tech support for MS or any other company, HANG UP.Never, ever reveal ANY personal information to ANYONE who cold calls you.Never, ever give out bank account numbers, credit card numbers, SS numbers to ANYONE who CALLS you.Never, ever agree to ANYTHING over the phone unless YOU personally called that service.Never, ever open email attachments unless you know ahead you will be getting an attachment.Never, ever respond to emails from "banks" which state your account is being suspended unless you "verify" by using a link in the email. Banks will never reach out to you in this manor (this includes credit cards).

Just hang up...you can skip unplugging your computer. They can't gain "remote access" to your computer unless you follow their directions and give them permission to do so.

There are constantly different scams and you have to be careful. And it probably was one.

We get a few calls from these wonderful people each month. I try to keep them on the line as long as possible. It's great fun to play stupid and pretend that you're in front of your computer doing as they've requested yet not getting the results they want. I find they lose patience quite quickly and hang up quite angrily.Seriously though, they got the lady down the street from us for $300 for a two year contract. She followed all of their steps and gave them access to her machine. They "removed some threats/problems from her computer" and said that they would continue to monitor and check her computer for the next two years.Do a quick online search and you'll find plenty of info about these fine folks.

Tell him "Computer, what computer----we don't have one anymore. Some guy called and we gave him remote access and he stole all our info."

"Stupid" is a strong word for this situation. The man is old and apparently lonely. What he needs is for his "family" to show him true love and concern other than for his money!

Got a call from 000-000-0000... supposedly a fraud alert, and someone was there claiming to be taking info to validate the card was not stolen.

Seems like the scammers are hitting people hard these past few weeks.

The tragedy of all this is that they DO find gullible people. That's why they continue to run their scams. Not only are they making money, they're probably making very good money!

This happens when I search for HP factory anything. My wife has a CQ60 using ubuntu, now. I just give them my version of the wrath of God and that does end the calls for that session.

I always tell them that I am 90 years old and that I do not own a computer and ask them how could that happen. They hang up.
