Shaw Satellite Service

Hello All,

I am not sure if this is the right forum but my question is about Shaw's latest satellite launch. We are thinking about getting their service with a Winguard Receiver/Dish but are not sure if the service would be available in the U.S. Bell Canada is apparently no longer viable as service and we would like to use Shaw. Currently they are using two satellites but now have launced a third and my concern is that their beam may be restricted to Canada only. Should we go ahead and get the system or not? Any insights?

Thanks

Thanks for the information, I was hoping to get the roof top Winguard dish. We generally winter in Arizona, are the 75cm dishes available for these roof mounts or necessary? I am concerned about the new satellite coming into use and limiting recepetion to the border area.

When we took our 5vr into a dealer for fire damage repair, they had a roof mounted Shaw 75 cm dish on display. It would make sense that the dish would be a 75 cm dish for the RV's.
  • I will share an email I received from Shaw Technical Service today which should answer your questions and it reads as follows:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us regarding your account; I am happy to assist you.

I would like to clear up some misconceptions regarding our services and the recent launch of our 3rd satellite. We believe that this rumor started as Bell also launched a new satellite this past year with a very limited footprint, and they changed a large majority of their current channels over to this new satellite. As such, they are no longer broadcasting past approximately the 45th parallel or Northern USA.

With the launch of our satellite, it will also have a limited foot print, but it is being launched to expand our ability to add new channels to our lineup. As far as we are aware at this time, we have no intention of moving our current channels to the new satellite. Our service will continue to work in Canada, the USA and parts of Mexico. We will still allow our "Snowbirds" the opportunity to watch TV at their winter homes or RV resorts in Florida, Arizona, and Mexico, etc, as we understand a large portion of our customers are in this sort of situation. You will still be able to access your programming while you are away. This is with the exception of any new channels that may be placed on the 3rd satellite (as the 3rd satellite's footprint will not service the USA/Mexico.) Any programming you are currently receiving will stay the same, just no new added channels

I hope this helps, but should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. Please include any previous correspondence with your replies.

Thank you for choosing Shaw Direct

  • We use a 60cm dish with our trailer and I talked to Shaw about obtaining a 75cm dish. They told me that for a 100 bucks and the serial number of our 5vr, they would send me a 75cm dish kit. I asked why they wanted my trailer serial number and their reply was that our trailer becomes a second residence that is attached to our home address and the serial number is the only way to document it. Once it's documented, we can use their service where ever we can receive their signal. You'll have no hassles with Shaw like you'll have with Bell ExpressVu.
  • I just had a New 3 Sat LNBF Installed on My 60 CM Home Shaw Direct system Today. In order to make this work with My series 600 PVR the Receiver had to be reprogrammed.

The only reason We bothered to "Upgrade" is to receive more HD Channels on Our New HD TV Set! 200 New HD Channels coming in Early June!

I also ordered an additional New HD Receiver and an LNBF to fit the 75 CM Dish which We take with Us while traveling South each Winter.

I have it on good authority (Shaw Technical Support)that The New Satellites transmission Beam will Not be available more than 100 Miles South of the 49th However The Original 2 Will continue to work as far down as Guatemala on the 75 CM Dish.

I will be taking along an Older Receiver and LNBF just in case the New Types don't work "As advertised"
