Shaw isn't shutting down anything in 2018 AFAIK. They will gradually be transitioning some channels to G1 and you won't be able to get them. Period.OTOH I have a Shaw dish on a tripod. I can't say anything about Winegard performance except that the bigger the dish, the better. I have the 75cm dish.

I think your receiver is starting to fail on you. Which model do you have? As Joe said that is completely horse feathers about Shaw shutting everything down.

Shaw says: How is the weather in your area?If your area is experiencing inclement weather and your signal only became intermittent when the bad weather started, you may just need to wait for their signal to clear up.Is there something blocking the dish?If the dish is visible to you, take a look at the sky in the direction it’s facing. Could something such as a tree or snowdrift be blocking the way?Is the issue happening on only one one receiver?If you have multiple receivers and the problem is only occurring on one, try swapping it with another receiver in the house to see if the issue persists with the line or only that receiver.If this your signal issue persists or is affecting all receivers, you can take the following steps to try to rectify it: Verify connections at the receiver and (if possible) at LNBF or multiswitch. Trace the coaxial line from dish to receiver and bypass any splitters, joiners, or surge protectors on the line Inspect the coaxial line for an RG specification written on the side. Shaw direct requires an RG rating of RG6 or higher to work. RG59 cable will tend to work for a short time on some channels before burning out. Check for possible interference issues in the house and/or close to the dish such as anything that transmits RF frequency (radar stations, CB radio, or smart meters). If only some channels are intermittent, please take note of which channels those are. Try unplugging the receiver from the power for one minute and plugging it back in.

We have it at the cottage, pointed in a narrow gap between the trees. Last summer I had to go high and lop off a branch that had grown too long. We kept loosing signal on windy days when it would bend over and block the signal.

If you are not in Canada you will not get all of the Shaw satellites. More details, please.

A few years ago in Quartzsite I was having a similar problem on a older style Shaw HDPVR with the large dish mounted on a tripod. I was having it refreshed constantly until it wouldn't refresh anymore. Spent lots of time with Shaw on the phone trying to get it to work with no real success. Replaced with a new receiver and the new lnb and my problems went away.

A guy moved into our park a few sites down and said he needed help with his Shaw Direct install. I've done it many times so I said I'd do it. Well, I don't know what the problem is but I wasn't able to find any signal. RG6 cable directly from the LNB to the receiver. All angles were correct. No obstructions. Frustrating!

Did the guy have his Shaw working before he got down to Mesa? Maybe he got a new receiver but still has the old LNB's?

I got it working.

I brought his rx over to my dish and hooked it up. Seemed fine so they did a refresh. Was working on my dish within 15 minutes. Both dishes xKu LNBs.

So I took it back to his dish and had a closer look at the angles. I knew the elevation was off by one degree but figured that wasn't enough to make zero signal. Then I realized that he had the azimuth bolts so loose that the dish was leaning forward on the tripod - maybe 2-3 degrees. So add that to the 1 degree on the gauge and it was enough to miss on elevation. Got him up to 93%. Mine gets 96% but his is a 60 and mine is a 75 so that makes sense.

I just hate being defeated by technology. Not today...

The two original satellites do carry HD so you can get them down south. The newer third satellite is all HD and can't be seen far south. Eventually as the older ones die all stations will be transferred to the newer one.
