Got computer back
Sony helped by supplying part at no chg so that's good.
Sent me the old SSD and it's as (1492) suggested, it's not a proprietary part. This one is Toshiba and its TINY, bout size of a stick of gum. i now understand how a tech who has never seen a setup like this could believe drive was missing !!
Have found out they are called a mSATA (the m means MICRO)
Since it was back to out of box specs had a few hours of updates and reinstall W8.1 but we're going now.
