So - are you saying that your sound bar has video/HDMI inputs and outputs? I run all inputs (Wally, DVD player, etc.) into the TV first and the audio output from the TV to the sound bar. That way I have audio via the sound bar no matter the A/V source I'm using. I've never heard of the issue you're describing.
