Streaming movies from IPad to TV in camper

Here's what I'm wondering : if I have a movie already downloaded on my iPhone or iPad, can I stream it to the tv in my RV when there is not reliable wifi and withhout using my iPhone or iPad hotspot? I do have an older version of Apple TV that I could put in the camper. I'm worried about using too much data if I use the hotspot. I'm not too great with tech issues. Thanks in advance to,all who take the time to respond.

So the answer is Yes you can. Apple makes a Lightening to HDMI adapter that works just fine. It's a new technology called wire. :)

I didn't know you could simply use a wire! Sometimes the best solution is the simplest I suppose.

  • A quick bit of Google-fu found this:

    4) If you have established a Wi-Fi network on your mobile device go to your settings and forget the Wi-Fi network. 5) Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on both your mobile device and your Apple TV. 6) Go to the Control Center Menu to access AirPlay by swiping up on the bottom of your device. 7) Push the AirPlay button.

It looks like you can connect the iPad to Apple TV via bluetooth, but you have to tell the devices to forget whatever WiFi network they are used to connecting to, if any. This way, the devices are talking to each other directly, not via a hot spot, router, etc.
  • You do not need an external connection to use a local wifi to stream to Apple TV on the same internal wifi connection.
