There are some tricks but the only way I know involves a wire.
You put a TV-Tuner card (usb dongle) such as he Hauppauge Win-TV in/on the computer and hook up a wire feed from the sat receiver.
NOTE: There are companies that advertise "Watch thousands of Sat TV channels on your PC for Free".. DO NOT BELIEVE THEM,, They lie, big time.
How I do it:
I have a couple of stand alone DVRs. (ReplayTV) they are no longer made, DirecTV owns the rights but is not building them, these are older NTSC only devices.
I can easily download a recorded show to my server computer, then transfer it to the laptop. Tablet or Smart phone. and watch anywhere... I can control them with the laptop, tablet or smart phone, You can stream over Wi-Fi from them or the server, via the server, to any device within range. (all you need is the proper URL) and it works.
Record in one room, watch in another, Pause, Rewind, Stop and pick up in the other room, Or on a remote device... All those features.. and the monthly subscription is less than 10 bucks. (Way less). and that is just for the programming service.. if I run 'em in VCR mode it's free (I have to program in the times and such, In DVR mode I just click on RECORD THIS SHOW)
