Sweet Packs Malware

just did a google search...Remove Sweet Packs...and got a bunch of hits. give that a try.

What has worked for YOU to remove malware? I HAVE googled about removing Sweet Packs, but there are many conflicting ideas.

Did you just copy the Rescue Disk image to a CD? If so, it will not boot. Depending on the burning software you use there will be an option to burn cd image to disc.

I use malwareytes. You can run it in safe mode too.

BTW, I downloaded it and keep it on a cd because often malware programs and viruses will disable the nic card preventing internet connections.

I don't think the "Aniv Rescue Disk" is appropriate in this case. Rescue disks are designed more for difficult embedded malware. Those that resist removal while the existing OS is running. Also, browser and search hijacks are not always detected or removed by traditional AV software. Nor are they necessarily removed by using System Restore. In any case, I know about SweetPacks personally. Just recently downloaded a freeware utility from a well known tech site. Despite indicating that I did not want any add-ons during the install, quite common with freeware, it installed SweetPacks anyway. But in my case, it just took a few clicks to remove.

You may want to try using the freeware Comodo Programs Manager(CPM) in the future. One of it's features is an Active Monitor which tracks all setup installs, updates, and changes to your system from a particular program. Uninstalling from CPM removes the core program and all linked programs, removing both files and registry changes. It can run automatically to detect setups, or you can right-click on a program you want to install, and it will monitor its installation. Designed for Windows, but does not support WIN 8.

Note that can burn an .iso file to CD/DVD from within WIN 7 by just highlighting the file in Explorer, or right-clicking the file, and selecting the "Burn disc image" option.

Thanks for all the information. I'm sure that I "burned" the disc image to the CD, but I looked back at my first post, and I had written "copied" instead.

Once again, I don't really advice using a rescue disc in this instance as it's overkill. But to answer your question, in order to get your computer to boot to the CD, you need to go into your system BIOS, and set the boot order to your CD as the first device. Save the changes, and exit.

Getting into your computer's BIOS screen is different depending on your system. Some by holding down the DEL key upon startup. Others use a specific function key. For instance, my Acer Netbook uses the F2 key to enter the BOIS. And others will even tell you which function key to use for selecting the boot device upon startup. Look at the DOS like text when powering up your system to see if indicates a specific function key to use?

I nearly got bit by this myself because a utility that I use came bundled in a wrapper that downloaded this stuff. However, what did save my bacon was running the program under sandboxie. It proceeded to install whatever crapware, but I was able to access the core program executable, copy it off somewhere safe, then purge the sandbox, flushing all the crapware down the drain (with sandboxIE, any programs sandboxed have all writes and modifications saved in a different directory, so no real files get touched.)
