I gave up of Internet Exploder years ago. You know the browser you use to download a better browser? I had been using Firefox for over a decade and watched it get progressively slower, even though my computers and internet connections were getting faster.A couple of years ago I gave up on Firefox and "slept around" with Chinese browsers, putting up with the adware because it was free. I was using a Mac at work and liked Safari, but it really only worked good on a Mac (big surprise). Chrome came with a new laptop so I gave that a shot and stuck with that for the past few years, but lately it has been hanging the laptop with a stuck process that task manager can't close.I've switched over to Opera and it's working fine, I'm just wondering if anyone is using another browser that I should try.I miss Netscape :)

I've been using Opera with built in VPN for about the last 6 months.Every once in a while there's a site that doesn't work so I dust off Chrome for a few minutes then put it back to bed.

With Chrome, as well as probably any other browsers, if the browser starts running slowly, check the plugins (extensions) that you have installed. Each of the extensions is using memory and CPU, and adds to the time it takes the browser to start up when you launch it.For Chrome, there's a button in the top right corner with 3 dots. Click it and then go down to More Tools-->Task Manager, it will show you how much memory each browser tab and how much each extension is using. And you can disable / uninstall extensions my going to More Tools-->Extensions.

I'm starting to get real disappointed in Firefox now too. So many plugins not accepted across the board. Right now I can't watch any videos. It states download new version of Flash, Adobe. When I go to download them Firefox says they won't accept them. What a circle go around. :RMy question is if you switch to these really off brand browsers are they completely compatible with your software and the websites? I get so many error messages now that a website "doesn't support the browser you are using".

If the websites you're going to require Flash, you're going to have a hard time. Most modern browsers are dropping support for Flash. It's a dead technology.

I'm quite happy with the Edge browser that comes with Windows 10. I also have Chrome installed just in case. I've also messed around with Opera, Yandex and Vivaldi. All three appeared to be pretty good.

Because they're behind the times. I think starting in 2020 Chrome won't support Flash at all. Same way banks support Java and that's almost dead, too.

Also, pretty sure YouTube doesn't do Flash at all. The websites for the late night shows you're talking about might, though.

I've been using Firefox for the last 10 years or so and two things I have noticed are:

1. Installing the Adware option for Firefox helps with it's overall data usage and,

2. Over time Firefox seems to use more and more memory which slows it down and I always have Task Manager open in a window I can see and watch the memory usage for Firefox. W/O the adware the memory used to start off at around 900K and grow to over 2 to 2.5 million. I learned to periodically use Task Manager to end just the Firefox Process tree that resets the memory usage and hence restores the speed for Firefox.

I'm now with 1 and 2 starting off at around 600K and slowly say over 4 to 6 hrs grows to a little over 1 million at which time I end the Firefox process tree via Task Manager and restart Firefox to reset the memory usage back down to the 600K or so level. BTW I'm running Win7 Professional on an I5 processor with 8GB of memory with the OP sys on a SSD.
