T mobile

Hi,

As of September 6th new T-Mobile subscribers will have unlimited everything.

There *is* a catch. No more high speed tethering is included. That will be sold for $15 for 5 gigs.

Unlimited 2g tethering at 128 kps is included.

All older plans will be grandfathered in, so no worries at least for now.
  • 2g is 128 kps. 3g is a big leap up (I think). I know that on 256 kps I can watch netflix.

Is 2g tethering something between 1x and 3g?
  • Hi Jeff,

Coverage is much improved from even 1 year ago, but you do need a device that covers band 12.

One nice advanatage is that coverage in Canada works where ever Bell works. Essentially that means it will work any where that has cell service.

Problem is that their primary coverage is and always has been focused in major metro areas. Even in LA if you walk into a T-Mobile office their primary concern is where you live and shop.

The good news down here is at least now they have additional spectrum to build infrastructure in but it's currently clogged up by existing TV stations and one in proximity of the other ain't good depending on the channel the phone has chosen. I'm in possession of a modified T-Mobile phone built for engineering analysis of this problem and what it might take to get them to live together. Both LA and SFO have these additional channels and I've been able to get them both to work with minor antenna tweaks :) I just wish their coverage map really was a good as they advertise in the burbs.
