Personally I think you would be best served to look at one of the convertible devices running the full Windows 8, that can be used as a laptop or tablet. They are pricey but I think in the long run its more bang for you buck. You will not able to run your Windows apps on a tablet with Windows RT.
A tablet
might be able to replace a laptop in many circumstances. It depends on your needs. I love tablets and view them as extensions of laptops/desktops. Here are the things that a tablet is excellent for:
- Internet Surfing
- E-mail
- Light gaming
- Books & Magazines
Here are things you need a laptop or desktop for:
- "Real" photo editing (especially for those who shoot RAW and need the power of Photoshop/Adobe Lightroom/PaintShop Pro)
- Video editing
- Full Office Productivity suites
- Mapping & Routing programs
- Decent size monitor!
- Storage for photos and videos!
There seems to be some misconceptions about Windows 8.
Windows 8 itself is the full Windows operating system. It runs on x86 based tablets, desktops, laptops, and "convertible" devices.
Windows 8 RT is not a
weird operating system. It is strictly a tablet OS and simply cannot run full Windows programs. Not unlike iOS or Android.
