Testing how much data Google Maps uses...
I have heard this come up recently and was curious myself so I wanted to test it. How much data does Google Maps actually use? We have all heard it described as a data hog... lets see how much water that statement actually holds.
My son is in the local high school marching band and we had to do about 150 mile round trip to go to tonight's game.
I thought it would be a great opportunity to test how much data Google Maps actually uses.
So I reset my cellular usage log on my iPhone to zero and started Google Maps.

Here is a picture of my planned trip to the High School.

I started the navigation and cried a little inside.. expecting my 1.5 hr ride to destroy my data plan.
Finally, once I got to the school, parked, phone unmounted from its windshield mount, tickets paid for, butt in the stadium seat for pregame... it was time for the results of leg 1...

Yep.. 9.4 MB for a 70 ish mile trip.
I used a slightly longer route to get home as it took us more interstate and less back roads.. Here is my final useage for 150 ish miles we logged today.

Less than 19 mb total... for 150 ish miles.
So for a 600 ish mile trip I could expect to use about 80 MB ish... or less
now, I still like my stand alone GPS but having real time traffic info on the app is pretty nice.
Just thought I would share.
Thanks!
Jeremiah
