X2. Yep It's really the East Coast Weather Channel.
From what I've read, the Weather Channel had been getting 13 cents per subscriber from Direct TV the past couple years.The Weather Channel wanted another penny but DTV wanted to cut the amount per subscriber by 20 percent - or roughly to 10 cents. Which is obviously a hard nose position to take.
It's not a much watched channel outside weather events. Real popular channels on DTV get up near a dollar per subscriber on DTV.
I suspect you'll not see the Weather Channel back on DTV since competitors are moving in. Accuweather is supposed to be putting together a package, but I wonder if a weather company can do the "glitz" required to make for interesting TV.
