To make a good first stab at bloatware, look in add/remove programs in Windows Control Panel, and write down those you know nothing about, then google them to see what they actually do.
In W8, all those tiles you do not ever want to use are a click away from removal.
A big culprit is unneeded and unwanted antivirus software, and they are quite hard to kill entitrely, but google might help there. The wording of the menu choices and decision boxes are deliberately deceptive - McAfee comes to mind.
Type MSCONFIG in the RUN option of the start menu of XP, W7 and under the startup tab see all the programs that run when you first stsrtup. Use google to see which ones are clear to uncheck
