First all, when you buy a new computer, you should check with the mfg of that computer to find out what they install or add from vendors so as to make some money. I don't understand why people don't call the vender when they have an issue with a new computer. They all come with some warranty that allows you to call and ask questions. Also they have a web site forum for asking questions.
What is called 'bloatware' has nothing or very little to do with which Windows version you get preinstalled. By the way, unless the bloatware is actually running, not just installed, it has no affect on your computer performance. Usually what is running are things you yourself have installed like software for printer, camera, Itunes, Adobe, Skype, and photo sofwareetc. to name a few.
All these bloatware can be uninstalled easily through the control panel and Programs and features. If you don't know how to do this, just ask almost anyone around you.
Just because you see an icon doesn't mean that the software has been installed, it is probably only an icon to the install program. By right clicking the icon and selecting properties, you can tell if it is an install program. Even if you make a mistake and start the program and if it is an install, it will so indicate that to you.
Almost every software I have installed, has update features. I have installed over 200 different programs or Win 8 and most if not all have updates. Most ask, but not all. Even on the Metro side, they ask if I want to install the update.
So far, none of this has anything to do with Win8.
I don't have any issues with running both the new version of Word and an older version of Word either on Win 7 or Win 8. They are two very separate versions.
As far as the apps on the metro side of Win 8, as burlmart has indicated, just delete them.
By the way, bloatware is not only on Win 7 or Win 8, it is on my Ipad, and my Galaxy tablets, ie try to get rid of Itunes or Music or Mail on the Ipad.
