Yup Tom, I read that article - and was informative, in fact, was one of the reasons I decide to continue with Wdw8 until I get back to Florida in a couple months. My tech skills are pretty minimal compared to most of you - although I'm not afraid to 'try things' ... and know as usually, I can get back to where I started if I fail.
And all instructions and advice here accounts for each step proceeding correctly, and it probably does for most of you because when it asked for some little 'fix' along the way, you know what to do, I don't ... because it uses a term I'm not familiar with or a process (simple probably) that I have no clue how to find.
And this install kept telling me 'error' or 'do X first" and I didn't know what 'x' was ... confused Monkey???
But what I did do was find everything I could find that I don't want/use and dump it off the HD, uninstall. And will continue to do that, and maybe one day get this to be a clean install just like it should be from the mfgr without all the junk we don't need or use - I know, I know, other mfgr pay MS to put this on - but those of you that need these tools know where to find them, and those that don't need them, won't buy them anyway - so it just another advertising method to dig into our wallets -
The frustration that new MSWord caused me over the past couple months - converting all my email into 'unreadable junk' assures me I will never buy that program just for spite, if nothing else. My old version works fine now that I found and uninstalled the new version. SO, why buy a new one?
I find it interesting the MS has to 'trick' you into buying the new one by creating a mini-program in it that fouls up your work, instead of letting the new version 'sell itself' due to improvements - well, there probably aren't any, or it so minimal no one buys it except 'new customers' ...
IF it even sold me an upgrade (as I already bought TWO versions) for a few bucks, that's different, but forcing me to buy the complete version after TWO really tweaked Monkey this time.
SO, will continue with this Wdw8 temporarily, and continue to tweak it as I dump programs and apps - and might end up eventually using it long enough to keep it ... Although it continues to confound Monkey why any idiot would HIDE the icons on a desktop - that single issue is the dumbest idea - hiding what you want your user to use. Dumb, dumb, dumb, although we all like to play games, so maybe this programer decided to play a game with all of us ... :) :)
This other issue is making three 'back-clicks' to get where you were? That's wasting time in a world that reacts so instantly now (immediate news, immediate weather??) Who cares ... some people spend so much time online (talking about the grand-kids here) stay current and in contact on these mini-pods, they don't have time for anything else, let alone smell a rose once in awhile ...
SO, Monkey is heading to Yellowstone tomorrow, to smell a rose, or maybe a buffalo pie - but certainly will not be stuck on his LT running Wdw8 updates. :) :) :)
