Gmail does a good job of filtering that ****.
One thing that helps is using two email addresses. One that you use for friends and financial stuff. The other is a spam box that you use for short term things. Like shopping for an RV, insurance or something where they are going to sell your info to pad their profits. If you end up buying from say Geico, just change the email to your real one after.
I only use my spam box when getting prices for things or signing up for things I only have a brief interest in. I occasionally go in there and clean it out so it isn't terrible to manage when I do want to use it without wading through all the junk.
