The Real World is still as private as you wish to make it. The online world was NEVER private. They just didn't tell us that in the beginning. Every single service or info source which was "free" should have has a disclaimer; "You are trading your personal and social and shopping and behavioral information for the right to access this site or use this service. That information will be sold for targeted marketing". And it should have been a banner across the top of the page, not buried in ten pages of legal-speak.
The moving of the online world to our phones, which are with us everywhere, has been a game changer in the loss of privacy. But toss the cell phone and pay cash and you can be as private as you wish, as long we can still use cash, which just may not be all that long now.
