- AllegroDNomadThe government has not figured out that you cannot regulate stupidity. This is just another excuse for the government to regulate free enterprise. Distracted driving is already an offense. That covers GPS, cell phones, eating, correcting the kids, everything. Nothing more is needed.
Regulate. Regulate. Regulate. - TvovExplorer IIWhat makes "smart phone apps" so different than a GPS? We setup the GPS on the dash before leaving, and never touch it again. Glance at it while driving if needed - since it is on the dash, our eyes barely "leave the road". There is nothing to do or touch.
- sonoraExplorerMoney is what is driving this. You have a well connected company that is behind this and is lobbying congress to use the full weight and force of the government to guaranty revenue and dominance in the market, freezing out any free market competition. The "safety" angle is just boob bait for the bubbas.

that means they will have to take GPS of the market too. that and CB's and cell phones and any other hand device on the market. what next? I do know that the present admiration sure poured it to the truck drivers. I know of friends who are truck drivers and they are thinking very seriously of closing up shop due to regulations given to truckers.
Tracy Morgan might disagree with you. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer III nearly had an accident on the Interstate while I was trying to setup my GPS on the dash. It's not really the phone, it's the distraction. Yes, texting is the worst (have to look down) but so is eating while driving, talking hands free, touching the GPS, disciplining the kids in the back seat (the way I was rear-ended a couple of years back), driving "impaired" and rubber necking! Is the Government going to regulate this as well? Oh wait, they already do. If you do this stuff and get in an accident you get a ticket or go to jail!
- rockhillmanorExplorer III'm still stuck on why on earth anyone needs to text on a micro pad phone instead of just calling the person. :R
- HappytravelerExplorerFor some reason people like big government to control their lives.
- gboppExplorerMaybe AM/FM radio, Satellite radio, and any form of music is next? :?

- ScottGNomadOur car has nav that does not allow user input while moving. We stop, make a quick input and we're on our way - no big deal.
Anything that gets people to leave their damned phones alone while driving is going to save lives.
