The TomTom help line was not available over the weekend. What puzzles me is I didn't do any of things mentioned above recommended by TomTom except turn the sleep mode off and it finally updated. Or at least the "no maps found" has gone away and I have a map. I did plan a trip and it shows the route. The TomTom icon at the bottom right of the screen will now allow me to click 'settings' and I see where you can clear the 'cache'. I didn't do this as WoodGlue suggested over the weekend because it didn't seem to work. I right clicked and left clicked and cursed to no avail. Settings was not highlighted or available. I have myTomTom on desktop (newer PC) and on a laptop. The laptop goes on trips. I used the desktop since it has a much larger drive and ram. The desktop PC icon at the bottom right for tomtom now says your 1530 has been updated. The laptop states three updates now available, please connect your device. So, now think everything is okay.I have saved the instructions above as recommended by TomTom so next time is quicker!? What gets me is the darn thing updates for over four to five hours as if everything is going well and then says there was an interruption! Please try again! Thanks,

Right click on the C:\ , do you have at least 6G free ? If the map is 2.6G, you need double that amount of disk space.

When I have had the few problems with my TomTom, I just call them. They answer quickly and have resolved the issue. Have you tried that?
This seems to be a common problem with your model.

TomTom suggest that you do four things before updating.
1. Make sure your screen saving is disabled.
2. Make sure your computer doesn't go into sleep mode or hibernation.
3. Turn off your antivirus.
4. Turn off your firewall.
No 1 is very important.
No 2 is very important.
No 3 is usually important. It will enable itself after a reboot.
No 4 can be important and again it will be enabled after a reboot.

Well left it "updating" overnight and think it took this time. I never got the 'settings' on the tom tom icon at the right bottom to work or do anything. I noticed mytomtom site was saying updating a Via 125 not a 1530 model and was unable to change it. We will test on a short trip tomorrow. I did turn it on and it showed the proper location of our house. The sleep mode is a power saver setting on the PC that goes on after so long. Something on the TomTom website mentioned changing this setting. I can't wait until the next attempt to update!

It's on the bottom. I little flap that opens up where the device info, serial number, memory slot etc are located. You'll find it!

Okay, saw the icon on the right bottom and right clicked it and the "settings" is not highlighted and nothing happens when trying to click it. I appreciate your help! I need a good night's sleep now to regain patience and hopefully some more brain cells. I have looked all over the device and don't see any way to add or change a memory chip.

I don't know what you're talking about when you say "the sleep mode off"

The new map will be approx 2.6 GB in size.

When you have the TomTom plugged in, there should be a little world shaped icon in your system tray (near the clock on the right hand side) Right click on that and choose settings, then cache, then clear the cache.

You'll probably be instructed to buy a Micro SD card to store the new map on. They can be bought through Amazon for approx $20.00

Well it didn't work with the sleep mode off. As best I can tell the maps on the tomtom have been removed and the website mytomtom thinks I have the new 9.10 version of US/Canada and my device states "no maps found'. I do not understand the suggestion system tray and clear the cache. Sorry not a computer person. The website starts downloading as it thinks and six hours later, no maps found. Available memory says 477.75mb but how large is the new map?

Just make sure you clear the cache as I suggested. The GPSQuickFix is only a 36k (or so) sized file.
