Too much glare on GPS screen!

Question

I have a three year old TomTom with a 4.3" screen. It works just fine for what I use it for, which is just to see where I'm at on unfamiliar roads. Anyway, my issue is that often times, on bright days, there is so much reflection and glare on the screen that I can't make out what's on the screen! :M I already have the brightness at 100%.

Surely I am not the only one that has this issue??? Any suggestions to help with this problem???:?

Hi I went to the tomtom store and found sunshade for the gps units. here's a link sunshade. It might help I haven't had a need to use one but they are offered as a accessory

I got one of these Universal Dashboard Mounts.  The mount just sits on the dash wherever you want, and holds the TomTom securely; but, it allows you to easily reposition it to avoid glare.

Move it back from the windshield or put a cover over it to keep sunlight off.  You might also try changing the screen colors to a combination that you can see better.  I use mine only in cities since it's really hard to get lost on a highway in rural areas.

One thing I do in bright glare conditions is change the display to show the night view screen - the roads stand out better on my Garmin and Rand GPS with the dark background and lighter roads - that the standard daytime view with a light background.

Not a great solution, but it helps.

The ultimate cure for this problem is to use a circularly polarized filter over the display; it actually cancels the glare.See:Circular polarizing filter demo.
