transfer pictures from cell phone to laptop

With my previous cell phone, when I wanted to transfer pics from my cell phone gallery to my laptop I just plugged the cell phone into my USB port. My windows picture manager would allow me to transfer the pics. I upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S3 and this process doesn't work.

I have looked through my cell phone settings and have checked the Verizon online support and haven't found a solution. I looked through various apps that might do the trick but I don't want to download an app if it is not necessary. Am I missing something or do I need to download an app. If I need to download an app for this, which is the best one?
  • I like to use Picasa with my cell phone cabled to my PC. Once Picasa "sees' my cell phone I click the "import" button in the upper left corner of the Picasa screen.

Thanks for the replies. I will check out the Samsung update and drop box. I do have the SD card but need to look for the adapter to plug into my PC. For Davydd, I am using a windows 7 pro PC. I realize it does not do some of the things that the iPhone MacBook pro will do but the MacBook doesn't do what I need for business applications. Different strokes for different folks.

Just Google "micro SD card adapter"
    One possibility

Another possitility. This one, the micro SD plugs into the slot in the SD card.

    Third possiblity.

  • Wife and my Samsung S3 has no problem connecting with Win7 and Win8.
  • Mini USB cord and loaded straight from my S3, although it loaded both the backup file and the camera file before I realized it.
  • Bucky, that is the way I did it with my other phone but my S3 wouldn't work that way. I still don't know why. I did go to Wally World and bought a SD card reader that fits in the USB port. When we get back from our trip, I will go by Verizon and see if they can figure it out. I also can't scroll my pic gallery on the phone so there is a problem somewhere. Most everything did transfer with the SD reader so I accomplished what I reallly wanted to do, just not how I wanted to do it.

Well, everyone might laugh. I just send my cell phone pictures to my e-mail address. My phone is an older model.

You have probably brought great relief to many by posting this. I know it has to me. All the manuals in the world, internet searches and yours makes the best sense. Thanks

If you have an Android phone. AirDroid is a neat alternative.

Yes, airdroid is the best solution we have found. It is fast and user friendly.

I use Airdroid all the time. It's great. Check it out HERE.
  • If you want the Samsung Version use Samsung Kies here is the link. Just intall this on your PC or Mac plug in your phone and you are good to go. I use AIrdroid over wifi but this maybe easier for you.

  • When I plug my phone in, a USB symbol appears at the top of the phone. If I drag down the menu, it says USB connected - Select to copy files to/from computer. If I tap on it, I get a screen with a "turn on USB storage" button. Select, then select again from pop-up window. The phone then connects to the computer and works like a mass storage device. (Takes about a second total)
