Yup, that was a stumbling block if you needed full drive encryption. I'm using Truecrypt containers in WIN 8.1 with no problem.
Haven't really following CipherShed since they do not yet have a release available for download. Though would like to know who they are? Have the development team behind the Truecrypt audit acknowledged them?
UEFI is something that's being considered, but CipherShed has not committed either way on it.

page lists the key members. Unlike TrueCrypt the main players in CipherShed are not remaining behind the curtains.
The TrueCrypt audit website hasn't been updated since April, before CipherShed was announced (and before TrueCrypt folded) so they have no mention of this project. The
Open Crypto Audit project also has no mention of them. However, I wouldn't read anything into that - any audit would happen after a version is complete - right now there's nothing to audit.
