Until the audit finds a viable reason otherwise, no critical vulnerabilities have yet been discovered, I intend to keep using Truecrypt. In fact, still installing it on new PCs I've acquired. Apparently, even Amazon AWS services is still using it.There is no real open source equivalent to Truecrypt in terms of functionality. I have used Diskcryptor in the past. But the same question of an independent audit could also be directed toward it?Otherwise, you're dealing with closed source paid encryption apps such as Bitlocker. So have no idea of their ultimate security, including if any backdoors have been engineered into them?

I too am just concerned about keeping personal data secured from hackers. But that doesn't mean some sophisticated hackers cannot discover an engineered backdoor or exploit a vulnerability to gain access to data without needing to breach encryption itself. The problem with closed sources is that we will never know if these vulnerabilities exist without some type of independent verification? Or a discovered exploit is made public?

TrueCrypt, as it was previously, is dead. The developers folded up shop.A fork of the code has been done and a new open-source project created called CipherShed aims to take over where TrueCrypt left off. However, they have not yet released anything.I have not seen any updates on the audit of TrueCrypt that was underway before it unceremoniously folded. The last information on the audit is from April.
