I'm not sure I'd go by anything The Register says - they're kind of technology's version of the National Enquirer.
This article is probably a better source and it doesn't say anything about a "new and untrusted key". Also the "big news" from the auditors was about a
new auditing project. It sounds much more suspicious the way The Register writes it.
