Sony is considered one of the top names in broadcast TV equipment, but they drop the ball on occasion. At the TV station that I retired from they had about 20 7" LCD monitors in one of the control rooms. Every one of them died within 3 years. They all had bad electrolytic capacitors. I'm not condemning Sony, but all brands can have their problems.
Sony does not build their components, and are subject to failure by others, just as Samsung and Panasonic are.By the time they figure out there's a supplier problem there could be 100,000 units already out there.
We had a person at the station full time replacing caps in Sony & Panasonic VTR's, then moved on to Panasonic monitors. It ain't their fault (mostly)
