i used to have a analog tuner card for my laptops
it accepted analog rf input and sent the video stream to the pc
it came with software for recording
i recorded a bunch of the 2006 winter olympics with it
hapauge and ADS TECH
Are two of the better brands
ads tech used hardware mpeg encoder on the card, which lessen the load on the cpu
which greatly improved recording
similar to what the Mstar 'system on a chip' does in the HW 150PVR
if you do this , make sure the software works with your version of windows
