my reception with my air antenna works well in my driveway but at various campgrounds get no channels at all. These campgrounds are not remote and near densely populated areas. I know the boost works ...

Most of the antennas on newer rigs are omnidirectional, so don't have the rotating feature anymore. You just re-scan after relocating.
True. The newer rigs have done away with the superior batwing antenna. Sad.
