A friend of mine converted to Mac a few years ago after being a Windows users for decades. Says they both have benefits and issues. Macs have the same update issues but are handled differently. Less viruses issues though.
Ask yourself what do you use your computer for and could either a windows based tablet suffice or perhaps and iPad?
I converted to windows 8 then 8.1 from 7 and didn't look back. Took a couple of days to figure things out but a little tweaking and it worked great. All of the program's I used were old windows apps like excel, word, tax software and all worked well. I moved from 8.1 to 10 on day one and spent a couple of hours dealing with the changes. I've encountered a few issues but nothing that would say to go back.
I have had both AMD and Intel based systems over the years, and unless you are doing really intensive stuff you should care not. Make sure you have as much memory as can be installed in you computer and forget about it.
