I've often heard the phrase Macs "just work". Just got a text this morning from a buddy's son-in-law asking if I could take a look at his Mac because it won't boot. If I can't get it up and running, he'll have to either pay a Mac tech to fix it or scrap it.
I personally wouldn't save any money by owning a Mac because in the 31 years that I've owned computers, I've never once paid anyone to fix one of my computers. Every once in awhile I have a hard drive or PSU fail but other than that, my Windows machines just keep on running without issue.
I don't care if you like Macs or not, I just hate when someone has a problem with their Windows computer, Mac people come out of the woodwork to tell that person to get a Mac with the claim that Macs "just work". Mac people will try to tell you that Apple uses higher quality components which is BS, they get their hard drives, memory, cpus, etc... from the same vendors that Windows machine mfrs get their components from.
You often hear it because it is an accurate statement. Knowing PC like I do, you know as well there are zero restrictions on what can be loaded on them and what you can do to them. That is a bonus for most of the people who are seriously into computers and tech knowledge but based on software that is not approved to work with the OS and its software components it creates and unstable Windows OS. Mac limits what can be loaded on to their system needing an approval process, it can be bypassed but your not making it into their App Store. this is where the stability perception comes in, if windows locked us down from doing what ever we wanted I would agree, just as stable maybe even more.
To the OP, another item to look at is solid state drives, they usually only come in 125gig and 250gig builds with reasonable price point. They are much faster then the normal hard drives and make a noticble difference in boot and shut down times. Not something you need, but if you can get it is nice to have! I choose a smaller solid state drive for my last computer as I knew it was not going to need it to store large files, basic day to day life stuff. I do have my own 4TB cloud which I would use for pics and music. Not practical for everyone.
