We need more information.
Do they each have different SSID's (connection names)?
Does your laptop see your iphone hotspot but won't connect?
If so, try deleting the connection on your laptop (right click on the iphone hotspot name and click delete), then refresh your connections and try again.
It should now come up and ask for your hotspot's password. After it connects once, it will remember the password.
