Using Dishpointer

I'm currently lost, need to take a break, since I cannot get to first base with Dishpointer.

Just bought the app

When i touch the camera - AR View, I get s message that I must turn on location services. So I touched location and enabled internal and then done, but apparently that did not turn on the location services.

Where am I missing the boat.

I tried to find a dick and jane youtube but did not get a hit on one of that type.

thanx
  • This is just so easy... Nothing else is close. Then with a manual setup you fine tune the dish.

I dont have a dish pointer . We bought a baby monitor at an estate sale . It works great you can keep the beeping tone real low in the trailer and listen with the walke talke.

HD sat boxes don't beep. Dishpointer superimposes the sats on your phone screen using the camera. Augmented Reality. You point the camera at the southern sky and you can see the sats on the screen and if there are trees you can find a place with no interference.

There are YouTube vids and vid on their website.

  • As MrWizard wrote, the App is asking you to turn on your GPS services. The App needs the GPS to determine your current location and then it can display the satellite locations.
  • On an iPhone it's Settings Privacy Location Services (on) then scroll to Dpointer and make sure it's on.

I would also turn off sats that don't apply to you.
You do that in the app.

I have to point the camera at the ground and slowly raise it to keep the arcs where I can see the sats.

I've been setting up sat dishes at campsites for years. Long before smart phones and fancy apps. All you need is a compass and sat finder.
These sat finders used to be about $6 until everone started buying them.

    Satellite finder.

Won't help finding a hole in a forest.

What phone, and do you have internet a.k.a. a good data connection
    On most android phones
    You can go to
    Settings
    Scroll to location
Enable ... stand alone GPS services

You Need data..IF you do not turn on gps and you needed compass to point the phone and see the Sat
  • Is there a way to enter a manual location? That's what I have to do. Auto-locate doesn't work well.
