Using Verizon in Canada

I have a Verizon phone with the Americas Choice plan. I have plenty of minutes available but wanted to know how I can use my cell phone when I travel to Canada for about a week without incurring horrendous roaming charges.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

  • Verizon uses CDMA which isn't compatible with most Canadian (and other foreign) cell systems. You'll be roaming, at best, and may not even be able to connect in some places, depending on the frequency bands your phone supports. Pretty much the only option to avoid the high charges is to use a different phone.
  • I also have Verizon's Americas Choice, and will be in Canada in a few days. Your only option is 89¢ a minute with that program. I elected to purchase a Telus USB air card and reactivate my Magic Jack. Telus has a 3 Megabyte plane for $50 a month. With the air card and Magic Jack, I'll have phone service when ever I have internet service.
