In this case the 'impostor' would have had to steal my ID and credit card, gone into the store, ordered a phone on MY account, and then come back to the store to pick up the phone. And he would have to be old and ugly. And, the crowning touch, the clerk at the Verizon store said nothing about my having to call again.
What doesn't Verizon understand about "The legitimate customer was standing right in front of me at our store"?
If these calls were easy and simple, I wouldn't mind. But they never are.. it's a lot of wait time on hold, "all representatives are busy", and a bunch of annoying loud music and ads. No thank you.
