VHS to DVD converter

We have a lot of VHS tapes we'd like to convert to DVDs. Why are converters still so expensive?? Nearly $200. Been about that for several years . Anyone have suggestion where to find one for less?

Furthermore, with every year that goes by the market gets smaller and smaller as the number of people with anything on VHS worth converting diminishes. Since VHS is low-quality image to begin with, upconverting it to show on an HDTV just doesn't make all that much sense unless the video content itself is one-of-a-kind such as a wedding or other unique event.

Totally agree. I copied a few VHS tapes over to DVD and the picture quality was poor. Now I search on Ebay for replacements DVD movies and have had good luck buying used. Even a "good" rating DVD has better picture quality then a VHS tape.

They are so expensive because there is very little demand for them.

  • $200 is expensive? Seems very reasonable to me, but I paid that much for my first calculator in the 1970s and it could only do basic matematics. Here's a link to a Toshiba version for $165.99.

  • For that much cost, I'd consider replacing the VHS titles with DVD's. Are they not available? Besides the quality would be better.

On Edit: My mistake, those old movies on DVD are EXPENSIVE !!!! :o
