I've used both Sony Vegas Pro and Movie Studio for many years. The consumer version, Movie Studio, is actually very powerful, and inherits most of the features of the pro version. Such as GPU acceleration, image stabilization, burning Bluray/DVD directly from timeline, preview on external LCD TV, 2D/3D track motion effects, even editing 3-D projects. You can also correct color most video clips with just two clicks. Previews run in real time, but is dependant on your computer hardware and graphics card.
A free 30-day trial is available of the current versions such as
Movie Studio Platinum 12. However, you can get the previous version such as
Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 for about $30, and is compatible with
Windows 8.
