Video Editing Software?

I made a DVD of our Utah trip a couple of years ago with Windows Live Move Maker on my ancient HP running Vista. It was fairly easy to use and let me do a lot of editing. I'd like to do something similar with the pics & vids from our trip this year.

BUT...

I have a new HP running Win 8 which I HATE and it has a no frills version of Cyberlink PowerDirector and of course it wants me to purchase the full version. I want something that I can edit vid with, add music or narration to, put photos in & add text.

I haven't read a lot of good about CyberLink from regular people that have purchased it but the reviewers seem to love it. I don't need or want anything that takes a media degree to use.

Any suggestions?
  • Yup, as suggested just install MS Windows Live Essentials on your new Windows 8 machine for free!
  • I am far from a computer techie type. I've looked at my computer's info and what the software requires and I'm not sure my dinky 'puter is up for the task.

Here is a pic of the sys info for my computer:

and this is what Pinnacle's requirements are: (I would think that most editing programs have similar requirements)

    System Requirements
    Windows® 8, Windows® 7, Windows® Vista® (SP2) (64-bit OS recommended)
    Intel® Core™ Duo 1.8 GHz, Core™ i3 or AMD® Athlon™ 64 X2 3800+ 2.0 GHz or higher; Intel® Core™2 Duo 2.66 GHz, Intel® Core™ i5 or i7 1.06 GHz or higher required for AVCHD™*, stereoscopic 3D* & Intel® Quick Sync Video support
2 GB of RAM or higher, min. 4 GB for Windows® 64-bit (strongly recommended for stereoscopic 3D)
DirectX® 9 (or higher) graphics device with Pixel Shader 3.0 support such as:
NVIDIA® GeForce® 6 series or higher (CUDA™ enabled required for CUDA support)
    ATI™ X1000 series or higher
Intel® GMA X3000 series or higher
128 MB VGA VRAM; 256 MB or higher recommended, required for AVCHD™*, stereoscopic 3D & CUDA™
    Display resolution: 1024 x 600 or higher
Windows®-compatible sound card (multi-channel output required for surround preview**)
4.5 GB HDD space for installation

Can someone translate and tell me if my computer can run Pinnacle or any of the others?

I might just have to stick photos in an album instead of creating a DVD!
  • Why not just download Live Essentials (which includes the current version of Movie Maker)?
  • I do my vids with Pinnacle ....They have a free trial down load ....If you load it and have a problem ....call me.... Cliff 913-221-4510
