VR gear, anyone tried it?

Our oldest gave the wife and me a "cardboard owl" for Christmas. It's like the $4 ones online but made out of the plastic corrugated "cardboard". It's really interesting but I wouldn't spend too much on it just yet.

It makes us a bit queezy so can't look at it too long.

Also, really uses band width and battery. I haven't looked at a lot of different videos, but they are mostly large downloads. If your on a wireless link or have unlimited data it shouldn't be an issue.

It also uses a lot of processor power so after maybe 10 minutes my S5 gets really warm.

I have the Samsung Gear VR for my Samsung S6 Edge Plus with 5.7" OLED 2560x1440 display but I could see a pixelated image caused by the high magnification. I think VR needs much higher resolution.

I'm going to wait and see on this technology. Nintendo Virtual Boy, anyone?

I'm looking forward to the Microsoft Oculus, but not enough to pre-order one. I wager Microsoft will bully the industry into supporting Oculus... I have a few games that support it right now actually.

Other than games, maybe Google Earth would be fun in VR, too bad Google Streetview is such low resolution, that could be really cool.

I don't really see any applications outside of that for myself personally.
