Walmart Straight Talk Phone Plan

I am trying to transition away from my outrageously high Verizon phone and data plan. If I go with one of Walmarts prepaid plans will I be able to use my Samsung Galaxy phone? I plan to use it as a hotspot (which it is capable of doing) for my computer internet usage while on the road.Is that allowed on Walmarts plans?

I believe the walmart plan that includes unlimited data throttles the speed after a certain usage. Once the slower speed kicks in, is it still fast enough to use for internet browsing and mail?
I understand Walmarts plan uses Verizon towers. Can I expectto have thee same coverage I receive with Verizone?

Thanks for your imput.

  • Straight Talk 45x12= $540/annually

    My setup:

Consumer Cellular flip phone (500 Min) 21x12= 252
Verizon Hotspot $90/mo x 3 months in the Rv 270
    Total cost 522

So for me, it is still slightly less expensive to stick with 2 different plans. I love my Consumer Cellular service (ATT network) and Verizon's 4G. I'm using Verizon's prepaid service which is very flexible and can be purchased for 7 days, 15 days, or 30 days.

And as far as the whole smart phone thing, I'm perfectly happy with my dumb phone. I use my laptop when I need to access the internet.
  • We have used Straight talk for over 4 years and LOVE it. You can't (not supposed) to use it as a hot spot, but we have traveled extensively over the east coast and don't have any problems with coverage.

    Our coverage is with Verizon.

Ten gig before throttling back would be fine, but I thought it was like 500meg or 1/2 gig.
  • Did you look here?

    Straight Talk

I think Straight Talk work the same as TracFone for carrier, depends on location and phone
  • #7 Straight Talk Terms and Conditions.... No, you are not supposed to use it as a hot spot.

They can, and will cancel your service and not allow you to use the same phone anymore, ever, on their service, and you lose your money for the month, and whatever you paid for the phone.

That being said, people interpret the free 3 gigs they offer how they want, which I am sure the next replies you get will say they use their phone as a hot spot every day.
  • Straight Talk runs off ATT towers. You will have to get a ATT or unlocked phone.

You can not get 4G speed on Straight Talk.

All of this is in the fine print on their site.

ATT coverage is not nearly as good as Verizon in many areas, including any outside cities.

And this is why I keep my Verizon phone.
