Watching DVR without sat signal?

Thanks for all the replies. I have done a little experimenting and it does work after it gets a signal and locked on. I then moved the dish and the DVR works as long as you do not go back to scan for satellite. I was not aware of this and this is the first time I have tried it without a signal. I had to move it to my nieghbors site to get a signal lock but I did not want to leave it in his way.
