Yes, you don't need to buy a new hard drive just to install Windows 7. You could even have both installed, and just not use Windows 8 for now. But may be an advantage in future upgrades. You would lose the extra disk space by keeping it, but most new laptops come with fairly large hard drives standard.

It looks as if the new icon below the tiles will just cause the Metro screen to scroll up, revealing the apps page.
However, you can already do something similar now in WIN 8 Desktop with just 3 or 4 clicks by creating a shortcut, and pinning it to the Taskbar. One click takes you to the apps page. ESC key takes you back.
