Wdw8 down to Wdw7 in laptop

Yeah, I'm wondering what the problems are. Sounds like you're having trouble installing Word. Unless it's a really ancient version of Word, it should work.
In any case, as someone else has suggested, you can run a virtual machine inside Windows 8 where you install Windows 7. I presume you have a DVD and key for that.
I don't like the Windows 8 tile interface but once I found out I could run it in the point and click mode I'm used to and ignore all that kiddy tile stuff, I wouldn't hesitate to move to Windows 8 on a new machine (but I'm not going to upgrade this W7 machine - I already have W8 running in a VM).
