Is there an easy way to start a web cam and be able to access that cam while away from home?

I have D-Link cameras in/around the house. They are easy to setup and have remote access and smartphone apps.

I have the older cameras that works with the d-view software that will turn a computer into a DVR to record any movements for review. It now looks like they have made it plug and play with an appliance that will record up to 4 devices.
