I have never run into that situation so I have no problem with it.
Really, nothing is free - if they can't pay for the service somehow (ads and selling personal info on users, most commonly), one can't expect a "free" ride forever.
To the OP - just pay for a hosting service. For ~$100/year, you can host your photos, have your own website, have your own email , and more. And it's all transportable, so you can move it elsewhere if needed.
I've used Bluehost for years and they've been reasonable and reliable so I've no impetus to move elsewhere, although there may be better out there now. Any "free" hosting of photos, email, web servers, etc., obviously isn't free - it costs them to provide a service. That only means that they're making a profit on you - typically by selling info about you. And, they want to lock you in so you can't move.
If you want it to be easy - stick to boards which host pictures, and makes it simple and intuitive to do so. This isn't one.
