I have had and have been using Garmin GPS units since 2002. I have the latest and greatest 7" wide screen in the RV. I really don't need it at all! After my car GPS was stolen I started using my phone and Garmin Maps. Because it uses data that has been updated in the last few weeks instead of the last few years, it is so much more useful than any GPS on the market that I cannot see ever going back. I can use the suggested route or modify it to my liking. While in the car/RV I am not trying to plan out weeks of driving, I just want to get from campground to destination. If I am planning a trip I use Google Maps on my computer and I can see where I want to go, how I want to get there and all the POI's I am interested in along the route. I use RVParky if I am looking for a campground at my destination location but nearly everything else I do with Google Maps. Try finding the all the local grocery stores with your GPS and then do the same thing on your phone. I use an Android but the platform is not as important as the abilities. Give it a try and you will likely never ask about a GPS unit again.
