What is best radio for a motorhome that is not expensive?

Since I get such lousy AM and FM reception with the radio I have in my Class C rig and I need some sort of aux input port to be able to plug my Sirius Radio receiver into it, so I can get audio through the regular speakers, I am thinking of replacing the radio.

Any suggestions as to the type of radio to get.. Brand and Model and Features, etc... Anythig to improve the AM and FM signals?

And, where could they do the replacement?

Are there some other features I should look for besides an Aux input port?

The existing radio has a CD player but no Aux ports of any kind.

Figure I might be able to play the Sirius radio through the Aux port or maybe my ipod at times with some of my recorded music.

What works good for you?

TIA

I did not see them for a long time but showing up in stores again are
    This Thing

The item linked to is no longer made but others like it are. I have one in my car (Use with cell phone or MD player)

I also have two FM transmitters here.. I have used one of 'em to send audio from a tablet computer to the house radio .. Man did that work well.

That said.. Many Dash Radios DO have a connector on the back.. For around 50 bucks you can buy a box that plugs in with it's own cord and .. instant Aux Input.. in some cases you can get several boxes, and plug 'em in one after the other,, Multi-CD changer, Sat Radio Receiver and.. Aux in.

To find out if YOUR radio is one of them you have two choices.. IF you have it, Read the fine manual.. IF not, Google: Make, model, manual and see what pops up.

  • I replaced the stock unit in my car about a year ago with an Alpine unit that has an Aux input but also has Bluetooth and a USB port. I can connect my phone via the aux or the Bluetooth which gives me many options for things like internet radio or playing mp3s from the phone. The USB port allows me to plug in a thumb drive with mp3s, currently have a 16GB drive plugged in which provides for many hours of music.

I have seen units that allow you to plug in your iPod via the USB port and control the iPod from the radio.

I very rarely listen to the radio anymore since there seem to be fewer and fewer stations out there that play music I want to listen to. My new stereo has a CD slot in it but I've never put a CD in it.

I think I paid around $120 for the unit, you can find other brands for more or less money, with similar features.
