What is SSL mean on a website?

What does SSL mean on a personal website? No sales potential...

And what does it do for me on my website (website contains only photos and information) and some travel stuff.

    "Secure Sockets Layer". It means if someone logs into your website using HTTPS://website.name.com it's a secure connection between the website and the browser accessing it. Probably meaningless/irrelevant in your scenario.
