What is TVersity Media Server Software ???

I purchased at a yard sale a box of "junk" in which was an copy of TVersity Media Server Software with serial number. Can anyone tell me what it does? and why I need it? I read on the internet about it, but still can not understand what it does. I was hoping that I could use it to watch movies and photos I have on my PC's external hard drive on my TV much the same way that a WD TV Live box or Roku box work.

How do I connect the computer to the TV? My TV does not have an Ethernet connection nor is it set up on a network. I do have a wireless router so I can get on the internet at different rooms of the house.

You can see that I am not very computer/TV smart. :R .. :h ..
  • the PC needs HDMI for high-def

or the TV needs VGA/RGB input to act as a monitor

you don't need any add-on software to watch movies from the PC
    just the correct cables

BUT many of us use 'VLC' aka "video lan player"
    or
"media player classic : home cinema"

server software would be for a 'stand alone' server to enable access by more than one PC on network

TVersity will let you access your 'movies/music' from another computer via the internet ... aka it uses data

you could leave TVersity running on a home PC connected to the net
go someplace else access the web and access your movies via a mobile device or somebody else's PC

just the correct cables . . . I have my TV connected so I can use it as a second monitor because my PC has a dual output.

"media player classic : home cinema" . . . I also use one of the two
