I guess I need a new tablet. I have a older Motorola Zoom MZ505 family edition and the app I need is "not compatable". :( I need to run dropbox and open an excel file on it daily. I'd also like to run Waze on it while driving. If I could figure out how to use it as a second monitor using a USB it could also work. It's running Android 3.1 now. Anybody got any "Why don't you..." advice?

This is going to start an argument but what the h...Get an iPad. I'm on my second one, upgraded from the original. It does everything you asked and more. I have the cellular model for the built in GPS. In the eight years I've used it I never, ever had a problem.

Your older Motorola is similar to the RCA models Walmart sells now. We have a Viking 10.1" with keyboard that has been great for nearly 3 years that we fill with movies and stuff for travel. Cost currently is about $90 with a keyboard, and 32 Gig of memory. Uses Android 5.0 (lollipop) or the have the same ones with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) for around $120. These are both google chrome/android systems, but newer than your 3.0, you would have to verify that they work with the apps you want to use.

Info from Google Play app store: Dropbox for Android tablet requires Android 4.1 and up. You have Android 3.1. Waze for Android tablet says varies with device.To run Dropbox, you need to either upgrade the software on the tablet you have now from 3.1 to something higher or get a new Android tablet which already has 4.1 or higher. I don't know about Waze; perhaps someone else can chime in.Disclaimer: I am not an Android expert. I just looked up the info on Google Play.

To each their own. The wife absolutely loves her Apple I-Pad. I absolutely love my Dell flip back screen laptop computer. Both do the same things and both of us are happy.

Nothing wrong with either of those products. But they cost more than $75.00. There are very inexpensive very capable Android tablets available.

I would head over to your local Best Buy. Tell them exactly what you want to do with it. Let the nerds do their thing and set you up. You’ll also be able to compare screen sizes while you’re there.
If you have a smart phone, you could use that for Waze. Otherwise, you’ll need some sort of data plan.

Just about any new tablet will do what you want. You aren't doing anything exotic.

Ipads are nice but overpriced for not much more usefulness.

+1 on the RCA Viking Pro 10.1. Great bang for the buck. The one I bought a couple months ago has Android 6.0 and a built in GPS so its great for navigation. Another plus is it has a regular charging port that is much more robust than using the micro USB port, though that can also be used to charge it.

I am not an apple fan but for tablets you really can't beat them, they are the original.

Ipad air 2 is what I use and travel with. I stream XM radio and use the google gps because it runs through my stereo to be sure I don't miss an exit

The two monitors I use now are 32 TV's. One in the bedroom and one in the living room. I have a PC hooked up to them running windows 7. We download movies to it and watch while camping. I also do work in Quickbooks on that PC. Quickbooks doesn't like to share a screen with other programs. At home I use two monitors side by side. Works well. On the road I could use a table as a "stand alone" and display an excel spreadsheet on it. It's stored in dropbox. My employees update it daily.

So you are referring to the tablet itself as the second monitor? I guess I misread your post and thought you were trying to attach the tablet to two monitors . . . :S
