The only things I have on the Win7 install is Magnifinder (an RV parts application), iTunes, Turbo Tax and Adobe acrobat reader- I did have it on 2 20gb drives, but had to resize them to 2 40gb drives when I installed iTunes.
Magnifinder does use a lot of .NET stuff, so a bunch of the security stuff is, I believe, for that. Adobe and Apple update their own applications.
One thing that drives me crazy is having the update install, Windows tells me it has to restart, I click "Restart Now", it fades out and says "The Following application is keeping Windows from restarting: Windows Update. Click to cancel or force restart."
D'ohh!
FWIW- I'm used to updating- my other computers update nearly every day, as I use a testing branch of my OS. It's just easier to do on them, and nearly never need a reboot ;)
